Seattle Seahawks

30 July 2009

The Seattle Seahawks under former Falcons coach Jim Mora Jr could use a high caliber back-up QB. With an aging Matt Hasselbeck and a flighty Seneca Wallace backing him up, Vick could be #2 on the depth chart for a season, appearing in a couple game situations or in case of injury and then start him next year. I wonder if Mora and Roger Goodell talked about Vick at all on their hike up Mt. Rainier.

It has been some time since I have recorded my thoughts on this blog, and for now, I am back.  You may be wondering why?  What inspired me to come back to my computer and do this again.  There are a couple of reasons and I’ll get to all of them.

With the MLB playoffs set to begin, there is a subtle difference in the air compared to start of any other postseason. In the NHL, fans can potentially look forward to a great Canadians/Bruins series that is not only exciting, but has a historical kick to it. Likewise basketball fans always have the chance to see if the Suns can finally get past the Spurs and football fans love seeing the rivalry of the Eagles Vs the City of Philadelphia when the Eagles so much as get tackled for a loss.

Battle of the beatens! Bengals looked better vs the G-Men last week

Packers @ Bucs: Packers
Still haven't lost my trust in Rogers and Co. after there loss to the Boys. I'm interested to see how much the Bucs will throw this week

The days of Shaun Alexander bull dozing his way through defensive linemen are far behind these flightless hawks. With a rushing attack lead by Julius Jones and Maurice Morris it is tough to use the run to set up the pass. With a receiving core led by recent new comers, who have no chemistry with Matt Hasselbeck it will be tough to use the pass in any situation. The Hawks may not have been the favorite in the division with their top receivers and now they're without their top three.

Hello Everyone!

If we haven't talked yet, my name is Zach "Z.V." Sanders and I have been writing here since May.

This past January I set up another sports site called 24/7 Sports Stop as a side project of mine. My current writing staff has gotten lazy and stopped posting, and I am looking to add new writers.

The Seahawks have finally won a game, and it was an impressive one. The Hawks rushed for 245 yards against the division rival Rams and dominated for the majority of the game on the way to a 37-13 win at home. The Rams offense was constantly out of sinc, and the Hawks defense stopped the big plays from beating them.

My apologies for missing last weeks action. I still made my picks, but did not have the time to post them for the world to see.

Chiefs @ Falcons - Falcons
Possibly the worst game you will ever watch (unless you include the WNBA playoffs this week)

NFL Week 1 Predictions:

Redskins @ Giants: Giants

I am not real confident about this pick, but I had to do it. Even with Osi being out for the year, I still think the Giants pass rush will befuddle Jason Campbell. If the Skins had looked even average in the preseason, I would have been inclined to take them instead. Until I can trust Jim Zorn, I have to take the Giants here.

The running game: Last years problem, this years question. Can the Hawks regain the running prowess after cutting Shaun Alexander? Lets start with the halfbacks.

1. Julius Jones: Jones is just the type of runner that Alexander was not. Jones runs hard and is not afraid to take people head on. Problem with him is, that he is best used as a tandem back. Good News! The Seahawks have that tandem. Expect Julius to get 45% of the carries.

Here is the beginning to my Seahawks preview. I will be going through position by position and previewing the year each position will have. Today: QB. To the depth chart we go.

1. Matt Hasselbeck: Finally becoming a household name around the NFL, Hasselbeck had his best statistical season last year. He ranked 8th in the NFL in passing yards (3,996) and 6th in TD's (28). On an even better note, he had more then twice as many TD passes as INT's.

On Wednesday, the Seahawks took the first snaps at their new practice and training facility. Although the Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC) will not officially be open until the 18th, the Seahawks saw fit to begin using the facility.

Here are my thoughts about the city of Seattle letting the Sonics leave

1. Seattle/Washington legislature are all idiots
If you are a Washington resident, I implore you to not re-elect our Governor (Christine Gregoire). If you live in Seattle, we need a new city council and Mayor. These people had a chance to keep the team here, twice! Yet, nothing was done. We need change if we are to ever get basketball back here again.
