If you troll the blogosphere for the latest news on the Seattle Mariners, more than likely you come across several threads posted calling for the heads of President Chuck Armstong and CEO Howard Lincoln. The "terrible twosome," as they have been referred to, are deemed responsible for the mess the current Mariners are in. Both have been part of the Nintendo ownership regime headed by Hiroshi Yamauchi for the past 17 years. In large part, this is the same group that brought in Lou Pinella as manager in 1993, drafted Alex Rodriguez, and brought in fan favorites Jamie Moyer, John Olerud, and Mike Cameron. The ownership group was also responsible for bringing in overseas talent in the form of Kaz Sasaki as the closer, who won Rookie of the Year honors, Shigetoshi Hasegawa, a talented middle relief pitcher, and most notably, Ichiro Suzuki, who won Rookie of the Year, Gold Glove, and MVP honors in 2001.They also would get the new "Safeco Field" constructed in 1999, deemed a top 5 stadium then and one of the top venues still today.

But Mariners owner Chuck Armstrong had given him a vote of confidence less than a month ago—an eternity in a six-month season—and it does seem odd that the Mariners would wait all of three days after firing Bavasi to do the same to McLaren. While this wasn’t the very first thing that Pelekoudas did, this probably fell right after putting pictures of his family on Bavasi’s old desk and painting his name on the door. Waiting three days sounds like a courtesy at best, and a shallow one at that, the equivalent of kicking a guy in the nuts, helping him to his feet and apologizing, only to kick him squarely in the cojones again.

Some of this outburst is a case of the shit flowing downhill, as Seattle owner Chuck Armstrong--himself a generally mild-mannered guy--ripped into McLaren and the M's coaching staff before the game Wednesday. It was the kind of shouting that the team could no doubt hear from the locker room, the sort of chewing-out session where nobody wants to meet your eyes when you leave.

On another note, Mariners President Chuck Armstrong told MLB.com that both John McLaren's and Bill Bavasi's jobs are safe. I cannot say I understand this. This team was supposed to win 90+ games, and will not even win close to that at this rate. Someone is the leadership role needs to become accountable for this. The only way this will probably happen is if Armstrong himself is fired, which he needs to be. But we all know this will never come to fruition with the ownership sitting on their asses in Japan. As long as the team turns a profit, ownership will not do anything to change that.
