Don’t look now, but the Mariners have suddenly won two series in a row, sparked by Jeff Clement’s two-dinger performance last night. They’ve got a huge hike just to get back to respectability and avoid the specter of being the first team with a $100M+ payroll to lose 100 games—hey, I’d take $1M to lose a game, wouldn’t you? —but the signs are there. Some of them, anyway.

Wednesday, he walked the first batter he faced and had to leave the game because of elbow problems. Brandon Morrow, who will fill in at closer, came in to close the game down.
Putz's problem has been diagnosed as a hyperextended right elbow, resulting in some secondary inflammation. There's no real timetable yet for his return, but the good news is that there's been no damage beyond the swelling and hyperextension. Further good news is that Morrow has sparkled this season, with a 1.00 ERA and 1.06 WHIP, putting 25 Ks up against only 7 walks.
