If Griffey really has signed with the Braves, I think the M's are going to go after Anderson now. I believe that honestly the M's want to replace Raul's bat and I doubt they truly feel very confident with that bat coming from what they have in-organization. That being said, I have tried to look at Anderson from every angle statistically trying to find some positives to his game. It's hard.
One thing is for sure, the guy has been good in clutch situations, not great, but good. But here are some stat break downs of this guy:
Career at Safeco Field: 78 Games, 315 AB's 20 2B's, 14 HR's, 52 RBI's, .260 BA, .292 OBP (yuck), .457 SLG, .749 OPS
Not good, at all.
But to look at his clutch factor:
Career RISP: .295 BA, .343 OBP, .460 SLG, .803 OPS
Career RISP w/2 OUTS: .287 BA, .356 OBP, .428 SLG, .784 OPS
So pretty good considering. If you go here you can see some pretty interesting stuff breaking down his game statistically.
Last year, he stayed pretty consistent vs. left handers and right handers. They broke down like this:
Vs. LH: .333 OBP .371 SLG .290 BA
Vs. RH: .323 OBP .450 SLG .293 BA
From month to month, he would be bad, good, bad, good, bad, good.
OBP SLG BA
APR: .266 .356 .231
MAY: .374 .500 .343
JUN: .227 .250 .188
JUL: .426 .616 .384
AUG: .300 .436 .266
SEP: .374 .448 .356
In 60 Games after the All-Star Break he put up these numbers:
77 HITS, 14 2B's, 7 HR's, 40 RBI's, .360 OBP .496 SLG .335 BA
So I don't think he's losing anything due to age, but he is terribly inconsistent and his only real value to the team, according to FANGRAPHS, is in the field. Projections say he would give the M's 1.9 wins, just below league average. www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/valuin

He would not help at DH really, and could take time away from Balentien. He could platoon there, which might be work, who knows. I really am leaning toward just not signing him and letting the kids play, but I wouldn't be terribly upset about him being signed. I don't know what kind of leadership qualities he has, but he seems like a steady guy.
What are the opinions out there?
