The days of Shaun Alexander bull dozing his way through defensive linemen are far behind these flightless hawks. With a rushing attack lead by Julius Jones and Maurice Morris it is tough to use the run to set up the pass. With a receiving core led by recent new comers, who have no chemistry with Matt Hasselbeck it will be tough to use the pass in any situation. The Hawks may not have been the favorite in the division with their top receivers and now they're without their top three.
If the Hawks will not repeat as division champions, who will step into the void? The St. Louis Rams are a lock for the first pick in the draft and continue to give their opponents chances to obliterate offensive records. The 49ers may contend, but I really don't see JT O' Sullivan leading his team to a division title.
By process of elimination that leaves the Arizona Cardinals waiting to take the honors of being top dog, But will they take it? Or will they give it away? If the Cardinals are not the winners of the division it will be because they gave it away not because another team took it. Kurt Warner is obviously not a top tier quarterback, but he gives the Cardinals the best chance to win this season. Warner has played like many crafty veterans have. In the brief NFL season consisting of three games Warner has thrown six touchdowns and only one interception.
Limiting tunrovers and letting the great supporting cast make plays it appears that Kurt Warner is the guy to lead the Cardinals to the playoffs.
Playoffs?! You wanna talk Playoffs?!
Of course it is week three, and there is no sense in talking about the NFL playoffs this soon, except the ever so sweet "I told you so"
